Hoathly Hill Sculpture Studios

Inge Tombs

Throughout my life I have been interested in working with people and with art. In my early years I worked in a Camphill Village (adults with learning difficulties), then spent a couple of years working in kindergartens in Denmark before moving to England.

Having achieved a City & Guilds qualification in embroidery I started teaching in adult education, but felt that more than technical expertise was needed. This led me to the artistic therapy training at Tobias School of Art & Therapy where I graduated in 1991. After this I trained further in sculpture with Gertraud Goodwin at the Studio.

Since my graduation I have worked therapeutically with adults and children, artistically with groups within the community, and I have taught therapeutic and artistic painting and sculpture courses in England, Denmark and Holland.

I have a particular interest in processes of metamorphosis and in flexibility within sculptural expression. I find teaching in the Studio both enlivening and challenging; it has long been a wish of mine to work in a group situation with freedom for the individual – be it student or teacher – to thrive and develop both artistically and personally. I think the Studio provides such a space.
